What are the Different Internal and External Sources of Recruitment?

Last Updated: August 21, 2024

A famous billionaire businessman, Jorge Paulo Lemann, once said: “The greatest asset of a company is its people.” Hence, employees are the key to success or failure in any firm or organization. If the employees work wholeheartedly with full efforts, the company will rise towards success.

This is the reason why entrepreneurs are critical in choosing the right staff members. Recruitment is a proper procedure which helps in finding a suitable worker for a specific job. There are two sources for recruitment, Internal and External.

Internal recruitment means to hire an employee within the organization by notifying the job opportunity. In addition, the higher authorities try to find the best suitable candidate amidst.

External Recruitment is the hiring of the people outside the organization. The employer hunts for the most qualified and the experienced candidates from the interested batch of applicants.

Which Recruitment Source is Better

Although there are various ways to hire employees from both internally and externally, there are just as many positive and negative factors among both.

First of all, internal recruitment does not need thorough evaluation as external job hiring of candidates. The employer has some knowledge and background of the employee.

Furthermore, new ideas and skills are not passed in the company when hiring internally. On the other hand, external hiring gives birth to new ideas and enthusiasm which regenerates the company system.

Moreover, an employee chosen from inside the firm does not need any special training or time while choosing from the outside requires some efforts to get the employee started.

When selecting employees internally, the chances of hiring the wrong one is close to zero percent while the chances of hiring the wrong person for the job is risky.

In addition, recruiting from an internal source does not solve the problem of unemployment around the world, but choosing from external sources gives a freshly new candidate a chance to give its best.

Lastly, the managers have a limited choice when selecting internally. There is always the chance of finding someone more suitable. Likewise, the manager has a variety of candidates to choose the best possible.

2 Main Sources of Internal Recruitment

Transfer

The staff members of the organization are transferred to a similar job in another department with the help of reference from the higher authority. There is no change in the salary package, no change in the nature of work or position of the job. But on the bright side, it energizes the employee to perform better.

Promotions

Promotion in an organization or firm is the process of upgrading a particular employee to the next higher position. This increases the salary package, status, and responsibilities. Ultimately, it encourages other employees to work hard and achieve the next higher level.

4 Most used Sources of External Recruitment

Advertisements

Advertisement is the most widely used method to attract suitable candidates for a vacancy. The message for a vacant spot can be announced through print or electronic media. This is the best way to reach out to a massive number of job seekers.

Freelance Market Places

Due to the Covid19, hiring clients through the freelance market place is at its peak. There are many places to get the job done by hiring freelancers through Fiverr, Upwork, Freelancers, etc. There is no need to follow the old ritual way to hire workers.

LinkedIn

Technology has taken a role in many fields these days to facilitate us in various ways. One such way is the use of the LinkedIn app in job-seeking opportunities. This app allows employers to reach candidates from all over the world.

Career Expos / Job Fairs

Nowadays, career expos are held on virtual platforms where the employers give details of the job they are offering. Both parties interact using services like videos, live chats, downloadable material, etc. This gives the organization the benefit to include expats in their staff.

To sum it up, when it comes to hiring, the employer has a variety of choices to choose the best from the crowd of candidates. There seems to be no holding back to unlock the key of success!

I’ve heard recruiters go through facebook profiles as well before hiring. Not only that, but candidates are selected via facebook. Shows just how much of an important role social media plays in every aspect of a business.
You’ve summed it up pretty well!
