Irrespective of differences in caste, creed, and culture, South Asians have a great influence on white skin tone. The attraction for white skin is created when actors, actresses, and the elite class do struggle to enhance their beauty by making skin tone lighter.
In South Asian countries, especially Pakistan, India, and Bangladesh, having white skin becomes a symbol of pride and gratification. From inside everyone admires the so-called ‘’ Gora System’’. Eventually masses having dark skin bear disrespect by a system where they live.
However, this man-made discrimination due to differences in skin color seems privilege for white skin masses whereas, disfranchisement for dark skin masses, all over the world.
It was reported earlier, how brutally an unarmed African-American man named George Floyd was killed by a white Minneapolis Police Officer in the most civilized country the USA just because of racism. After this murder, Black Americans have taken out on the streets of the USA against the innocent killing. Protest against prejudice led colored-skinned Americans to start a movement named ‘’ Black Lives Matter’’. The movement was initially supported by Black Americans, it was then prolonged when other communities including South Asian Americans started giving attention. South Asians are also outraged over the innocent killings. They are oppressed by being a part of this racial promoted system. Racial discrimination not only turned the USA violent, but outrage spread over this brutal act has taken protestors on the streets all over the globe.
South Asian Americans are concerned as this is a ‘’white supremacy’’ case. They are called “brown people” so they feel unsafe if this racial discrimination prolong. It is also evident that Officer who stood by as George Floyd died highlights complex Asian American Black relations.
‘’People don’t have a baseline of an understanding of what anti-blackness even is’’, a Hmong American Organizer told NBC Asian American.
This statement ignited tensions between the communities of Black Americans and it is taken as a threat for South Asian Americans so, BLM is however supported by South Asians regardless of how much differences exist between these two communities.
To what extent, oppression and racial discrimination continue, it might destroy the ethnic structure of society in the USA. BLM highlighted the racism within the country. It seems anger and emotional strain created after this incident may not retain halcyon in the USA as it is globally changing the mindset of the common man. Social media also plays a vital role in spreading awareness against racism. In South Asian countries racial prejudice escalates by certain groups as a result oppressed citizens seem to fight for their rights. The dominant racial group gets benefits as they promote discrimination among peoples and veracity declares society is going towards racial discrimination by all means.
